, named after Jack Ossofsky, a former NCOA president, given to individuals or organizations that have taken a creative, new idea and developed it into a successful program, service, or policy that helps older people achieve vital aging.

from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the OASIS

MetLife Foundation/National Association of Area Agencies on Aging Older Volunteers Enrich America (OVEA) Program Award
, which honors volunteer programs that are creating leadership opportunities for older adults and strengthening communities for the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring program.
RespectAbility Program of Excellence
, the highest award given by the NCOA, for the Person to Person peer support program. OASIS was one of four award winners that were nationally recognized for leadership in engaging older volunteers and demonstrated best practices in fostering continuing contributions that show community organizational impact.
AARP Impact Award
to OASIS founder Marylen Mann as one of ten people who “did something
extraordinary to make the world a better place.” Other 2006 award recipients were Michael J. Fox, Nancy Barry, Harry Belafonte, Governor Mike Huckabee, Naomi Judd, Jane Kaczmarek, Dr. Norman McSwain, Alan Reich, and Margie Richard.

from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognizes OASIS

The U.S. Department of Commerce funds startup of
OASIS Connections
technology education program.
1997
OASIS makes a national commitment to the Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future to reach 100,000 young people through mentoring programs by the year 2000, and surpasses this goal.
1994
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funded OASIS public program Reemerging Russia: Search for Identity, the first of four programs funded by NEH.
1991
The May Department Stores Company was presented with the
Business and Aging Leadership Award
by the U.S. Administration on Aging recognizing its national support of OASIS.
OASIS was featured on national television in the “Forever Young” segment of former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop’s series.
1990
The May Department Stores Company was honored as a finalist for
Harvard University’s George S. Dively Award for Corporate Public Initiative
for national sponsorship of the
OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program

1988
The U.S. Surgeon General’s Conference on Health Promotion and Aging recommended that federal and state agencies disseminate information about OASIS as a successful private sector model.
1985
OASIS and The May Department Stores Company received
Distinguished Volunteer Service Award
from the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
