OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring

OASIS trains and places adult tutors with children in grades K - 4th who read below grade level. The 2014-15 school year ended with 153 volunteers tutoring 190 elementary schoolchildren (grades K-4) in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho public schools. Tutors helped children in 29 Albuquerque elementary schools and 7 Rio Rancho elementary schools. These extraordinary volunteers mentored these children and assisted them with their reading skills. Our tutors fill an important niche, helping children who are reading just below grade level (and who often fall through the cracks) bump their reading skills to at or above their reading grade level.

It is one way Margie has stayed active and connected after retirement. "I do a lot of volunteer work, but this is the one that I really, really love." Read more about Margie.
