Volunteers are the heart and soul of our program. Share your skills and talents, support successful aging and meet new friends. Southeast Asia: Challenging Times Ahead (Class #23)
The nations of Southeast Asia are facing political, economic, and security challenges in the year ahead. We will focus on developments in Vietnam, Thailand, and Burma (Myanmar). Vietnam faces economic and security challenges from China. Thailand is currently ruled by a military government that has promised a return to parliamentary government by the end of the year. Burma looks to the first open elections in three decades to chart a course for its future. A lecture by William Itoh, former ambassador to Thailand.

¡Papel! Pico, Rico y Chico: National Hispanic Cultural Center Museum Tour (Class #1)
Catch a tour of this exhibit before it closes on January 31! An ephemeral genre of popular art, papel picado (cut, perforated, or punched paper) is best known as a traditional Mexican art form. We will also visit the Torreón to view the Mundos de Mestizaje fresco by Frederico Vigil.
Thursday, January 29, 10:30am-12pm at the National Hispanic Cultural Center
Friday Performance: Alavados (Class #79)
Alavados (a name meaning prayers or supplications in Spanish) is Congregation Nahalat Shalom's holy days ensemble. The group will perform Jewish liturgical music, folk songs, dance tunes and some comparative selections of east European Jewish music with Sephardic music for an uplifting and interesting performance that will be enjoyed by all. This presentation is made possible by a grant from the Jewish Federation of New Mexico.
