CATCH Healthy Habits in Albany

CATCH Healthy Habits:
Better Health for Children and Adults

Senior Services of Albany, a not-for-profit human services organization, serving the elderly in the Capital Region for almost 60 years, provides a menu of aging services for seniors, their families and caregivers that offers choice, independence and dignity; these services allow our elders to age in place in the comfort of their homes. Major program areas include Nutrition/Meals on Wheels, Transportation, Caregiver Services, Westview and South Mall Towers Senior Centers and Health and Wellness programs and classes.  The Meals on Wheels home delivered meal program provides essential nutrition and daily personal contact to hundreds of elderly or disabled adults.  The Transportation program offers rides Monday through Friday for medical appointments, grocery shopping, trips to the mall and even visits to family and friends.  The Community Care Services Department provides essential information and support to elderly adults and their caregivers through its social adult day care, grocery shopping assistance, friendly home visits, counseling, case management and a health insurance counseling and referral program (HIICAP).  For more information about Senior Services of Albany programs, please call 518/465-3322 or visit www.seniorservicesofalbany.com.

CATCH Healthy Habits pairs adults 50-plus with children to encourage healthier eating and physical activity.

OASIS collaborates with Albany Senior Services to offer the CATCH Healthy Habits Program in the Albany area.

The CATCH program combats the serious public health problem of obesity by engaging mature adults as mentors to teach healthy lifelong habits to kids in grades K - 5.

You can help!

Research shows that adults over 50 who volunteer have lower rates of depression and mortality and greater functional ability than those who do not volunteer. And as a CATCH volunteer, you are not only helping promote healthy habits for kids but also gaining that experience for yourself! Being involved in the CATCH program also provides the opportunity to experience the rewards of meaningful community service.

CATCH volunteers have fun as they promote healthy habits for kids and for themselves. To find out about volunteer opportunities with CATCH Healthy Habits in Albany, email Julie Liss or call 518-465-3322.
