Syracuse OASIS Concerts and Events

Andrew C. Russo, Concert Series Coordinator

OASIS celebrates Central New York’s beautiful fall season with four wide-ranging concerts on Tuesdays at 11:00 am.  In September, Syracuse University’s drum king, Josh Dekaney, leads his jazz trio through a program of standards and originals. October features OASIS favorite Steven Rosenfeld for a piano recital of music by Central European masters. In November, enjoy works of Prokofieff and Grieg with Symphoria concertmaster Peter Rovit and pianist Andrew Russo.  And in December, we welcome the Highland Winds with their program of classical and jazz styles as well as a bit of holiday fare.

Please note: Concerts are open to both members and non-members of all ages and are exempt from the $20 registration processing fee. Those who register for all four concerts, classes #118 - #121, will receive a discount of $15.00.

Josh Dekaney Trio 118
Josh Dekaney Trio
The drum set is an incredibly exciting instrument! And especially so in the hands of Central New York’s very own Josh Dekaney! From the lyrical to the funky, from the edgy to the sublime, Josh and bandmates will treat us to a program of jazz standards along with a few of their own original tunes.

Steven Rosenfeld, Piano 119
Dr. Steven Rosenfeld, concert pianist
Three centuries of Central European masters make up this program, tying a link from Leipzig to Vienna to Budapest. Lesser known works by Haydn and Schubert will be joined by Bartok’s Piano Suite and the great Schumann warhorse Piano Sonata #2.
Tuesday Oct 21 11:00 - 12:00
Fee: $15 1 session OASIS Lecture Hall

Peter Rovit, violin, Andrew Russo, piano   120
Peter Rovit, violinist, and Andrew Russo, concert pianist
Two large-scale sonatas for violin and piano will make up this program. Russian composer Sergei Prokofieff’s masterful Sonata #2 in D Major and Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s passionate Sonata in C minor both pay homage to Classicism in entirely different ways. From the austere to the romantic, these two pieces display wide contrasts in emotion and use of the two instruments.
Tuesday Nov 18  11:00 - 12:00
Fee: $15 1 session OASIS Lecture Hall

The Highland Winds Clarinet Quartet 121
