Ever want a taste of OASIS, but never tried a class? Join us for this special offering-- a free OASIS class  "The Creation of My Fair Lady" by popular OASIS presenter Charles Troy from Chicago. This multimedia presentation follows the roles of five larger-than -life men in the show's long evolution from 1912 play Pygmalion to Paschal's popular 1938 film, and into the 1956 musical theatre triumph we know as "My Fair Lady." It promises to be an exciting and enriching class from one of the OASIS Network's experienced and knowledgeable instructors

OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Celebrates 20 Years!

"The OASIS Tutoring Program has given me a lift, a sense of purpose," says Ila Dickson, one of numerous tutors being honored by OASIS in the month of May for her five years of service in the Tutoring Program.  "We become part of the school family, we get to know each other  . . . I am having a wonderful time!"

OASIS celebrates its 20th Anniversary nationally this year.  Locally, the program has been in existence for 11 years in Springfield, 10 years in Eugene and six years in Harrisburg.  Tutors are paired with young children in kindergarten through third grade to work on language acquisition, reading and writing skills.  Tutors work in in five local districts during school hours:  Eugene, Springfield, Junction City, Harrisburg or Pleasent Hill, and are placed at the beginning and middle of the school year.

The next information sessions about the program will be held in the summer on August 20th at 11 am and September 10th at 2 pm.  Call 687-9178 to register.  All information sessions are held at OASIS.

"There are so many needy kids, and the OASIS program gives them some balance and one-on-one attention that can be lacking in a crowded classroom," says Leola Giles, former coordinator for the program in Harrisburg, where Dickson started tutoring five years ago during her husband's illness.  "The children's self-confidence just zooms with that kind of attention."

Ten-Year Mentors:

Frank Bertrand, Jean Blankenship, Phyllis Earley, Hugo Helfenstein, Marilynn Jones, Dorothy Meador and Jean Nelson.

Five-Year Honorees:

Fred Beisse, Barbara Chinn, Barbara Coombs, Ila Dickson, Mary Montgomery, Bob Thomas, George Toper, Audrey Wood, and Robert Yamamoto.

You can discover more, and help some youngsters discover more, by being an OASIS Tutor!  We invite you to check us out.
