There is still time to become an OASIS Intergenerational Tutor this year.

The Tutor program continues to progress in all of our six districts. We have many tutors who continue to work with students beyond the one year commitment. They work with their tutees sometimes two or three years. Because this has been a trend nationally, OASIS has developed a 4th/5th grade curriculum.

We added a few new tutors this winter through our mid-year trainings. But we also said goodbye to a 13 year veteran, Loretta Labahn. Hopkins School in Sherwood planted a tree in her memory.

Please let us know if you or anyone you know might consider leaving a lasting impact through our intergenerational tutor program.

For more information contact Vivian Foster: (503) 241-3059 or (503) 413-3636 vm or vifoster@lhs.org

Read a story from Jean Trowbridge, a first year tutor, and realize how much her one-hour a week affected her student. Her story is what the OASIS tutoring program is all about.

I think we all remember one person who made a difference in our lives when we were younger just by taking the time to ask about what we liked and cared about what we said. The OASIS tutoring program asks that you give one-hour of your time, each week, to mentor a student and be that one person who cares enough to change a life. Training times are listed below.  Please contact Vivian Foster at vifoster@lhs.org or call 503-241-3059 or stop by our offices in the downtown Macy's to get involved.

Meet our tutors

Barbara Burnham says she "stays active in volunteer work." Wonder how active she really is? She volunteers and travels with Cross Cultural Solutions programs,10,000 Villages, Heifer International and CCS. Barbara does sound pretty busy. Wait, we didn’t mention she spends two hours a week tutoring a child. More

Marcia Hartman loves to fish. It takes patience, resourcefulness and determination, she says - traits that are pretty handy for an OASIS tutor. More.

Carroll Hutchinson cares for people around the world and in Portland. More.
