History of Chinese Medicine

Dr. Patrick Kennedy will present the history of Chinese
medicine, including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and other Asian forms of
healing in this class for OASIS members. Discuss the unique philosophy of Asian
medicine and the many ways that it both differs and is similar to Western medicine.
There will be a demonstration of needle acupuncture during the class.

The Big Band Singers

During the big band era, a number of singers became popular both during and
after the swing period. We will discuss the careers of such favorites as Peggy Lee,
Frank Sinatra, Martha Tilton and Marian Hutton. Discussion will be supplemented
with video clips and audio examples.

History and Archaeology: The Civil War in Iron County, Mo.

Dr. Steve Dasovich
Learn how the Arcadia Valley in Iron County influenced the course of the Civil War.
Due to the iron ore deposits, the Union fortified the valley and completed a railroad spur
to facilitate transport. This proved to be an irresistible target to General Sterling Price
when he invaded Missouri in 1864. The result was that this little-known valley became
the route of disaster for Price’s army.
