Join our friendly corps of volunteers

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our program. Share your skills and talents, support successful aging and meet new friends. In addition to tutoring children who are learning to read, volunteers represent OASIS at community events and help run the center on a daily basis. Please note that bookmarks are a wish list, and you are not enrolled until you finalize your registration and pay.

Or, if you prefer, you may mail or drop off your forms at OASIS during office hours (Monday-Thursday 9am-4:30pm & Friday 9am-4pm). Registration continues throughout the term; fall session classes begin on September 16 and run through December 23.

Catalogs have been mailed out and are also being distributed around town at libraries, senior centers, and other locations.

FOG New Mexico16 - Bringing 365 days of Sunshine to New Mexico: Foundation for Open Government
Susan Boe is the executive director of the Foundation for Open Government (FOG), a nonprofit, bipartisan organization that assists New Mexicans in opening the doors to government. She is a retired attorney and former journalist who came out of retirement to assume this position. She will present a talk on FOG and the state of transparency in New Mexico, especially in today's political environment.

Noted Albuquerque author and former lawman Don Bullis offers a special treat for OASIS this session. First, he will lecture at OASIS on The Lincoln County War (class #93) on September 25 at 1pm. Then, join Don as he takes you on an actual trip through Lincoln County to see the spots where Billy the Kid became legend. Lincoln, NM: Where Six Guns Blazed and Men Died with their Boots On! - Day Trip (class #110) will be on Tuesday, September 30.
 
17 - Can (Business) Ethics Be Taught?
What is being taught in our business schools these days? With financial scandals in the news, is ethical behavior taking hold among our future business leaders? A presentation by Sarah Smith, JD, a business ethics professor at UNM who works together with Albuquerque’s business community.

On October 1, take a trip with OASIS to Santa Fe which includes guided tours of two museums. On Santa Fe Art Excursion: Judy Chicago & Donald Woodman (class #1), we will visit the NM Museum of Art and the NM History Museum and go on curator-guided tours of three art exhibits: Local Color: Judy Chicago in New Mexico 1984-2014; Donald Woodman: Transformed by New Mexico; and Poetics of Light: Pinhole Photography.
