Meet some of the “Faces of OASIS”

Working with a child for a whole year gives you a great sense of accomplishment,” says Phyllis Metzler, a ten-year OASIS tutor who has helped more than 30 children in Albuquerque.

"I think of OASIS as the Great Facilitator," says Ken Charvoz. It brings together people who have a passion and expertise with adults who are interested in what they have to share."

“Older people have so many life stories, but many don’t know how to get started writing,” says Leila Joiner, who started a publishing career with the OASIS Journal.

“If we educate ourselves, we’ll be able to look after our own health better," says Hiram Wilbourne, who is moving with confidence since taking Free From Falls class in Los Angeles.

The older you get, the harder it is to re-enter the workforce," says Mary Archer, who gained the technology skills she needed through OASIS Connections. "The classes gave us a lot of information and boosted my confidence.”

Now I have time for the wonderful things I always dreamed of," says Aines Maza, who found health, fitness and friends at OASIS in San Antonio.
