OASIS Connections is an evidence-based technology skills education program for mature adults developed by The OASIS Institute. Participants can learn how to use email and word processing, search the Internet, understand online security and update job skills, along with many other technology applications and skills.
Goals of the program:
- Help mature adults develop the skills and confidence to use technology
effectively in their personal lives and in the workforce
- Provide technology training in underserved neighborhoods through partnerships
- Provide necessary training for older adults who want to get back to work
Courses: All Connections course materials are designed based on adult learning needs and emphasize hands-on active learning, relevant activities, step-by-step procedures, screen illustrations, ample time for skill practice and positive reinforcement. A total of 10 long and 22 short courses are currently available. Four courses have been translated into Spanish. View our current course descriptions.
Partners: OASIS works with community partners available to a broad and diverse audience, including underserved neighborhoods. Partners include libraries, retirement housing, park districts, YMCAs, senior centers, worker training programs, and other agencies.
Reseach: A study by the University of Miami School of Medicine shows the introductory Connections courses are effective at helping older adults develop computer skills.
