OASIS Institute Names Five Centers of Excellence for 2007-08

February 5, 2007

There is no doubt that the work being done by OASIS centers across the nation is meaningful and far-reaching. Dynamic programs are changing lives; participants are energized, healthier and more fulfilled.

Last spring, OASIS centers across the country completed an assessment to gain insight on each centers' strengths and best practices. As a result of that assessment, five centers have been recognized for making significant strides in taking OASIS education and volunteer programs to a broader audience. Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Antonio, and San Diego have been named OASIS Centers of Excellence for 2007-2008.

"All our centers are making a significant difference in peoples' lives," says Marcia Kerz, president. "But there are five who have really pushed to reach out and make a greater impact."

"What we saw from the assessments is that these centers have reached outside the walls of OASIS to bring new audiences opportunities that they would otherwise not have had," explains Pat Gilbert, OASIS network director.

"We're very proud of the achievements of these - and of all of our centers," Kerz says. "We hope that by showcasing some of the best that OASIS offers, we can learn from one another and give more people the chance to experience OASIS."
