Vital Visionaries Project

Fifteen volunteers, age 65 and better, will be selected to participate in a unique 4-session program offered by OASIS in partnership with the Eiteljorg Museum and first year medical students from the IU School of Medicine.

First-year medical students and OASIS members called Visionaires will take a creative journey together, using and honing their own creative outlooks, observation, examination and discussion skills while investigating art and artifacts at the Eiteljorg Museum of the American Indians and Western Art.

At the museum, the Visionaries will have a museum education facilitator open an intergenerational dialog focused on selections from the museum collections. By using the Visual Thinking Strategies method of looking together at art and artifacts, medical students will develop observation and listening skills to serve them in their current medical studies and careers.

OASIS participants will hear and share the group's observations and enjoy the socially engaging and comfortable dialog. Participants do not need to have a background in art appreciation; the art will serve as a conversational focus. The group will be offered a choice of studio activities related to the collections and one studio experience will be incorporated into the program.

Please call Melony Barney, OASIS Director, 317-253-1951, for more information regarding this project.

OASIS members selected to participate will be required to commit to attending all four sessions of the program offered at the Eiteljorg Museum, February 9, 16, 23 and March 1 from 10 AM - 12 Noon.
