OASIS has formed a unique partnership with our district in regard to ensuring our students receive strong support to reach their reading goals - a partnership that has benefited many students in our elementary schools.

My granddaughter is benefiting from the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program. Latia can't wait for Doris, her tutor, to arrive. She is excited beyond words. Out of this program has grown a desire to read whatever she can lay her hands on and to request any adult near her to read to her.

I have tutored at an elementary school near my home for four years. I feel that I have gained more than I have given. The school principal and the teachers, have been very enthusiastic in their support of me. I have been told repeatedly how much the time I spend is helpful to the child.

Since I became involved with this program I have thought about the adults that I remember who had an influence on me as a child and I have discussed this with friends. It was surprising to me to realize that what was memorable was often a small thing that occurred at just the right time. Since OASIS works with kindergarten through 3rd grade, this is the right time to overcome reading difficulties first and foremost.
