AT&T contribution expands technology training and workforce skills development

OASIS has received a $625,000 contribution from AT&T to support its
Connections technology training program in 2011-12. The contribution will expand workforce skills training for adults age 50+ in 18 cities; support national instructor training, e-learning and certification; and help people use technology effectively – both in their personal lives and on the job.
The economic downturn and high unemployment have impacted millions of Americans, especially adults over 50. The “Connections at Work” curriculum focuses on skills people need to search and apply online for jobs, and basic workplace technology skills. Learn more.

OASIS Tutoring Gets High Marks Again in 2011

Now in its 23rd  year, the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring program has engaged volunteers in helping more than 330,000 children learn to read and succeed in school. To ensure good outcomes for all, each year principals, teachers and tutors complete annual evaluations in the spring. The program gets high marks from both educators and volunteer tutors.

In their spring 2011 surveys, 95 percent of teachers noted improvement in students’ self-esteem and 93 percent saw improvement in the students’ attitude toward language arts. And, all of the principals surveyed plan to participate in the program in the 2011-12 school year!
