Few people today have heard of the ship named Athenia, the first ship sunk in World War II by a German submarine in the long-running Battle of the Atlantic. In an engaging multi-media talk, Tom Sanger – whose grandmother was a passenger on the ship – explores what went wrong for Athenia, why her story is little-known today, and the surprising circumstances that brought the story’s key opponents together again, 20 months later. Books will be available for purchase.
