Oasis Tutor Tribune

One Child, One Tutor, One School Year. Two Lives Forever Changed.

February 2026

From the Director’s Desk

Dear Oasis Tutors,

The words to the right from A.A. Milne make me think of you. The time you give, the patience you show, and the quiet, steady presence you bring to your students may feel small in the moment—but they take up an enduring place in the hearts of students, teachers, and administrators for many reasons.

As we share this winter edition of the Tutor Tribune, many of Oasis Tutoring’s partnering school districts have recently enjoyed snow days after periods of snow, ice, and bitter cold across much of the country. While students and teachers may be celebrating a pause in routine, winter and early spring also bring many meaningful celebrations and events. Inside this edition, you will find book suggestions available on Tutor Power and at your local library that connect to national and school-based celebrations.

We are also excited to share an idea, Journal Jabbers, submitted by a fellow tutor since our last edition—an engaging activity you may find useful for prompting writing with your student.

First Friday sessions continue, with opportunities to attend online or in person in March and April. Learning from one another strengthens us all, and we are grateful to everyone who has already taken the time to participate in this school year.

Looking ahead, we are also pleased to announce that this summer we will launch Tutor University for all Oasis Tutors. You will find initial information in this edition, with more details coming soon.

In addition, we have included several articles about books and volunteering simply for your own reading enjoyment.

So, take a moment, grab a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy this winter edition of the Tutor Tribune. Thank you for all that you do and for the heart you bring to this work.

Warm regards,

Mary Click

Tutor Tip: Journal Jabber

journal jabber activity

Patti Neiner, a tutor from Meramec Valley R-III (Missouri), created an activity called “Journal Jabber” with one of her students who had difficulty engaging with the journaling aspect of their sessions.

To address this, Patti, found a fun envelope and filled it with various prompts. She allowed the student to name the exercise, and together they came up with “Journal Jabber.” Each week, the student selects a prompt from the envelope and places it in their journal, where they work with the tutor to respond to it.
