Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him. –Maya Angelou

Join our Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring team today. Our volunteer reading mentors help elementary students enlarge their world by exposing them to a love of books. Reading mentors commit to spending one hour, one day a week to mentor K-3 students in one-on-one sessions for a school year.
We volunteer in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, and Rio Rancho Public Schools.

Available training dates (reservation required)

We have scheduled two tutor training dates in August 2018, then one date each in September and October 2018, and one in  January 2019.

Comments from Teachers and Principals at Albuquerque Public Schools

"I had a student this year who informed his mother that he couldn't have any doctor appointments on Tuesday mornings because that was his time with his Oasis Tutor."

"We absolutely love having Oasis 'reading buddies' at our school. They are consistent, dedicated, and generous volunteers who help make our community a better place. Our students really look forward to working with them and love the additional support!"

"Tutors are very positive and welcoming. They are patient and kind and make each child feel special. Kids are greeted with a big smile and it’s contagious- soon everyone is smiling and supported. What a difference it makes for our school. Keep up the great work. Our school is better with Oasis volunteers."

"Oasis tutors are amazing. They are the MOST dedicated people I have worked with. They come every week, they quietly work with children in whatever space we have (sometimes just the hallway), they ask for absolutely nothing, they're gracious and kind. We couldn't ask for a better group of tutors at our school. Thank you Oasis tutors for everything. You make a difference every day!"
