Last year we devoted time to understanding better what Oasis means to you – the people who participate in our programs.

Through our 2016 Participant Survey we heard many variations on the aspects of Oasis that you most value:

  • Discovering new interests through intellectually stimulating classes and conversation
  • Enjoying camaraderie with others who are eager to learn
  • Living a healthier life so you can do the things that matter to you
  • Giving back to your community

Your responses gave us insight into communicating how Oasis supports personal growth and discovery. Our new logo reflects that sense of adventure and enthusiasm for learning throughout our lives.

Your Story

Mary Pickerell of Bethesda, Maryland has enjoyed dozens of classes at Washington Metro Oasis and tutors children in the Montgomery County Public Schools.

“Oasis has offered me opportunities to stay connected, not only with people with similar interests but also with the younger generation through the Oasis Tutoring program, as well as the chance to ‘give back’ in some small way,” Mary says. “With Oasis I have made new friends, learned new things and maintained an active and healthy lifestyle.”

We welcome your story and your suggestions for new programs.

Next fall Oasis will celebrate 35 years of adventure. From the beginning, the organization that Marylen Mann founded in 1982 has worked to promote healthy, fulfilling lives for older adults, our greatest growing national resource.

And so we begin 2017 with a new look and a renewed mission: to promote healthy aging through lifelong learning, active lifestyles and volunteer engagement.

It’s your time to try something new!  We look forward to continuing to tell your stories here on our blog about how Oasis supports your lifelong adventure.
