If you find yourself wondering what to believe when you read the newspapers or try to absorb what you hear on broadcast media these days, you are not alone.

Now more than ever, it can be difficult to decipher fact from fiction when we watch and read the news  through television, print publications and social media.

According to a 2018 Edelman Trust Barometer survey, fifty-nine percent of people surveyed said they were unsure what they see in the media is true and what isn’t. Nearly seven in 10 said they worry about fake news being used as a “weapon.”

Oasis instructor Don Siegel’s class offers practical tips for using critical thinking to assess the barrage of information we receive. The 15-part YouTube series, Real Facts, Alternative Facts and Fake Facts in Science and Culture, was originally offered at Upstate Oasis in Syracuse, NY.
